What I do when I am not working
Interests
The outdoors, the gym, brain health, and the years of coaching kids
The outdoors
Hiking, walking, and time outside are a daily habit, not a vacation. When my son was growing up we rode dirt bikes for years and camped in real wilderness, not developed campgrounds. I taught him to fish, to use the tools of the outdoors, and even how to catch a fish barehanded in a stream. Many of those trips were with other families, and I am still friends today with some of the kids and parents from those years.
The gym
Three or four days a week lifting weights, plus two walks a day. It keeps the body honest and the mind clear.
Brain health and self-improvement
Since I was about eighteen I have been interested in working on myself: body, brain, and how well I understand life. I am a certified brain coach through Amen Clinics, and I keep refining a routine that includes red light, EWT, time at altitude, ozone, and supplementation. None of this is medical advice. It is what works for me.
Coaching and community
When my son was young I coached his T-ball team, helped coach his baseball team, and coached and sponsored teams in indoor and youth recreational soccer. I was a Boy Scout leader for his troop. I was active in church and in church leadership, volunteered with the Red Cross, helped flood victims, and served meals to the homeless. Those years shaped how I treat the people I work with now.
Reading
I have always been a reader.
